5.Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

Chiang-Mai-Night-Bazaar

The Night Bazaar, located on Thanon Chang Khlan on the east side of the old walled city, is a bustling 1 km stretch that comes to life after dusk until midnight, regardless of the weather. During the day, it's an ordinary street filled with shops, restaurants, and hotels, including popular chains like Starbucks, Burger King, and the city's first McDonald's. Large shopping arcades also run off the main street.

In the late afternoon, workers wheel little metal stalls onto the footpaths on both sides of the main road. As the sun sets, street vendors set up their goods for sale and turn on lights, fans, and portable TVs. Tourists arrive in numbers, and you'll likely find the same vendors in the same spots every night.

At the Night Bazaar, you'll find a vast selection of brand-name designer goods (real and fake) such as clothing, T-shirts, belts, shoes, jewelry, watches, DVDs, and CDs, as well as local Thai goods at low prices. Bargaining is expected and is all part of the fun. Even if the prices seem cheap, always try to get another 20-30% off the asking price.

Two other good markets to check out while at the Night Bazaar are Kalare Night Bazaar, an arcade-style bazaar located 1/3 of the way down from the top end of the main Night Bazaar, and Asunarm Markets, located 1/3 of the way up from the bottom end. There are also restaurants, pizza shops, and mobile food stalls, including Daddy's Pizza & Steakhouse Restaurant, which is highly recommended. The Night Bazaar is also an experience in itself, with bright lights, music, sounds of bargaining, and aromatic food vendors lining every open bit of space.
