Bang Tao, also known as Bang Thao or Laguna Beach, is located on the northwestern side of the island of Phuket. It is a large open bay that has one of the longest beaches on the island, stretching for about 6 km. Once used for tin mining, it has now transformed into a luxury resort. Today, the area houses some of the largest resorts on the island as well as some of the world’s beach clubs. However, although the area is known to be luxurious, there are some areas where many villagers still make their living by fishing, farming, and rubber tapping. Some areas are still untouched by development, especially on the northern tip of the beach. Bang Tao offers the best of both worlds – modern luxury and cultural escape.
