There are numerous tourist attractions in the Chalong Subdistrict. Each place is incredibly interesting, and the followings have become well-known tourist destinations today;
Wat Chalong or Chalong Temple: is officially called Wat Chaitararam, a priceless temple for Phuket people. It is suggested to anyone coming to Phuket to visit and pay respect to the statue of Luang Phor Chaem, Luang Phor Chuang, and Luang Phor Gleum for good luck and prosperity. In addition, there is The Grand Pagoda (Phra Mahathat Chedi Phra Chomthai Baramiprakat) which contains a sacred relic, a fragment of the Buddha’s bone, brought from Sri Lanka. Furthermore, there are several interesting statues of Phor Than Chao Wat, Thao Non Tri, and Ta Khee-lek and the wax museum displays three wax models of revered monks, furniture, and other artifacts from the temple’s history.
Chalong Bay: is located approximately 11 kilometers from Phuket Town. There is a long bridge stretching into the sea where you can enjoy the view, watch the sunset, and take pictures. However, Chalong Bay is not suitable for swimming due to its muddy shoreline. Furthermore, Chalong pier is a popular moorage location and one of the departure points for boat trips to nearby islands such as Racha Island, Coral Island, etc.
Wat Sila Suparam or Wat Mai Luang Pu Supha is located just 500 meters before Chalong Temple. The temple used to have Luang Pu Supha as the abbot. He lived for over 100 years and is one of Chalong and Phuket's most respected monks, attracting visitors from Phuket and other provinces to make merit and practice dharma at this temple. In addition, there is the museum of Luang Pu Supha within the temple which exhibits a statue and information about his life.
Many foreigners live in Chalong Subdistrict because of its convenient location near their workplaces and close to many attractions. In addition, many tourists come here for vacation and learn Thai boxing. As a result, this area is very lively and culturally diverse, especially in Soi Ta-Eiad.
Many tourists who come to learn boxing or diving choose to stay in this area because the locals are friendly to welcome tourists and can communicate in English fluently. Furthermore, the long-term stay will allow them to absorb and adapt to Thai culture very well. Many of them enjoy eating local Thai dishes as well. Moreover, most local people in Soi Ta-Eiad have various occupations, such as Muay Thai trainer, trading, hotel, resort employment, car rental agency, Thai massage, spa, etc.
Chalong Subdistrict is a prime location with many tourist attractions, healthcare facilities, schools, a pier, restaurants, and other amenities suitable for long-term living or even a short-term vacation such as BCIS Phuket International School, Phuket Zoo, Chalong Hospital, Mor Mu Dong Restaurant, etc. It is also convenient to travel. There are two major transportation modes in Chalong, which are as follows:
Land Transportation: Personal cars and motorcycles are a popular mode of transportation in this area. There is a Chalong Underpass that can help to reduce the traffic especially, during rush hour, and will facilitate travel to Phuket Town, Rawai Beach, Kata Beach, and Karon Beach, etc.
Water Transportation: Chalong pier is the main departure point for day trips from Phuket to nearby islands such as Coral Island, Lone Island, Racha Island, Phi Phi Island, Khai Island, etc. Furthermore, the Chalong Pier is a safe location for moorings because it is geographically protected from both large waves and strong winds. There are also parking lots, restaurants, shops, and dive shops on the pier.
