Mai Khao is a tranquil area and far from the city hustle and bustle. It is a small multicultural community. The Mai Khao Subdistrict is home to the airport, making it convenient to travel by air. In the area, there are some landmarks as follows;
- Mai Khao Beach is the longest beach in Phuket, stretching from Nai Yang Beach to Had Sai Kaew Beach. It is known for its stunning white sandy beach that is rich in nature. Mai Khao Beach is also a sanctuary for sea turtles to lay eggs.
- Had Sai Keaw Beach is a tranquil beach that is barely known among tourists. It is located at the northern end of the island, stretching for 3 kilometers. The place is suitable for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. However, it is not recommended to swim as the beach is steep and can be dangerous.
- Phuket Gateway is a new tourist attraction for Thai and foreign tourists. There are various facilities within the project, such as meeting rooms, living rooms, and a library, to provide knowledge and history of Phuket and a cafe. The building design reflects the symbol of Phuket.

Although the subdistrict is far from Phuket Town, it is surrounded by various facilities in terms of religion, education, and public healthcare. The subdistrict also has many tourist attractions such as Sarasin Bridge, Mai Khao Beach, and Sai Kaew Beach.
As for transportation, Mai Khao Subdistrict has 3 main transportation methods that are land, water, and air.
- Land transportation: there is Highway 402 (Phuket-Sarasin) as the main route of the subdistrict and other rural roads to nearby communities, villages, beaches, attractions, etc.
- Water transportation: Mai Khao subdistrict has 1 yacht pier, 1 private tourist jetty and 1 pier for tourist and fishing boats.
- Air transportation: Mai Khao Subdistrict is home to Phuket International Airport, which plays an important role in transporting passengers and cargo. The airport serves as a hub for both domestic and international flights.
