Situated just 150 km southeast of the capital city, Pattaya is the most favored destination of beach resort for those planning a weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Famous for its gogo bars and the government is putting in significant investment to turn the area into a family-friendly destination. So, if you want to enjoy some eastern culture, sun and beaches galore, renting a condo is a good option.
Pattaya is in the top ten tourist destinations most visited by travelers from across the globe. This tiny fishing village dwarfed by Rayong on the South and Naklua on the North came into its own in the 1970s and further gained prominence in the late nineties. Today it is one of the more popular destinations for medical tourism. World class hospitals and competent medical staff and at affordable treatment prices have made it a haven for cosmetic surgeries.
Pattaya is separated into two distinct zones North and south Pattaya. North Pattaya is known for its upmarket areas with its quiet beaches, fitness centers, restaurants, and bars. South Pattaya or the Pattaya Tai remains the hub for nightlife. The famous Walking Street is alive with over a thousand bars, discos, and gogo bars. Before you proceed to rent a condo, you must have a clear idea of the size of the condo, the number of bedrooms you need, if you need any additional amenities like swimming pool, gym, etc. the area and finally the budget.
At present, you will find a huge production of condos in the Jomtien area followed by Pattaya city. There is a surplus of condos in the market and finding a condo to match your requirements is quite easy.
If you have come to Pattaya for nature and beaches, you won't be disappointed for there are many palm-fringed beaches and for example try Pattaya beach, Wong Amat Beach, Bang Saray Beach, and the list continues. You can choose to sunbathe, fish, scuba dive, snorkel or enjoy the thrills of parasailing on these beaches. For those who have had enough of the water the Sanctuary of Truth, a massive wooden structure on the Wongmath beach will give you a break. The floating market is another attraction that is unique to Thailand. The Nong Nooch tropical garden designed in a French style with its landscaped gardens and flowers calms the eyes and the soul. Finally, every Thai city has its own Big Buddha, and Pattaya is no different. At 100 meters above sea level, the Buddha statue at Pratumnak Hill is imposing and commands your respect.
Tourism is a significant contributor to the economy of Pattaya and within Thailand as a whole. With every tourist destination, Pattaya has its share of young, uneducated Thais coming from remote villages to work as maids, cleaners, waiters, etc. They earn a meager amount between 5000B to 8000B. That being said almost all the locals can afford a motorbike and own a cellphone.
Housing in Pattaya is relatively cheap when compared with Bangkok or with other holiday resort towns. Renting is expensive in the south and central Pattaya at almost $560 for a single-bedroom apartment, but you get reasonable three-bedroom condos just outside Pattaya in Nongprue, Sriracha, Bang Lamung, and Map Prachan, and Jomtien Beach for less than $1000 a month.
Utility costs in Pattaya, Water, and garbage disposal costs around $50 and the electricity costs are higher because of the constant use of air conditioners due to warm tropical weather. Shopping for food and the various items you would purchase as part of a stable diet like fruit, vegetables, bread, eggs, and other essentials are cheap and very affordable. The usual grocery budget for those who prefer home-cooked meals is around $200. Those who love to dine out will find that food is a good value in Thailand.
There is a decent public transport system that connects the city and it is affordable.
