With every tourist destination, Pattaya has its share of young, uneducated Thais coming from remote villages to work as maids, cleaners, waiters, etc. They earn a meager amount between 5000B to 8000B. That being said almost all the locals can afford a motorbike and own a cellphone.
Housing in Pattaya is relatively cheap when compared with Bangkok or with other holiday resort towns. Renting is expensive in the south and central Pattaya at almost $560 for a single bedroom apartment, but you get reasonable three bedroom condos just outside Pattaya in Nongprue, Sriracha, Bang Lamung, and Map Prachan and Jomtien Beach for less than $1000 a month.
Utility costs in Pattaya, Water, and garbage disposal costs around $50 and the electricity costs are higher because of the constant use of air conditioners due to warm tropical weather. Shopping for food and the various items you would purchase as part of a stable diet like fruit, vegetables, bread, eggs, and other essentials are cheap and very affordable. The usual grocery budget for those who prefer home cooked meals is around $200. Those who love to dine out will find that food is a good value in Thailand.
There is a decent public transport system that connects the city and it is affordable.
