Kamala is located in Kathu District. It is adjacent to Choeng Thale and Patong Subdistricts, and there is a part adjacent to the Patong Beach, Surin Beach, and within easy reach to Phuket International Airport. There is an assumption that the name Kamala was derived from "Grabala or Ao Luek" then turned to Gramara and Kamara. In 1943, the local office of the Ministry of Interior changed the district's name into Kamala, which means "lotus" instead.

Phuket Smart Bus: Tourists can take Phuket Smart Bus from Phuket International Airport to Kamala Subdistrict, which has the bus stop in front of Phuket Fantasea and Big C Market Kamala Branch. (the terminal is at Rawai Beach)
Local minibus or Songthaew: Tourists can take a local minibus from Phuket Town to Kamala Subdistrict. The minibus will depart every 15 minutes or earlier if the bus gets filled up with passengers. When passengers want to get off, they can press the button to give a signal to the driver to stop. Songthaew will start from 6 am to around 6 pm.
